“Mouth Of The Rat”, by Peggy A. Edelheit, is a very quick read, perfect for when you are in a rush, but still longing for some entertainment. This is an interesting whodunnit story that it constantly creating questions in your mind as new information comes up all the time, allowing the reader to start gathering the pieces of the puzzle.

This is the first book I read in the Samantha Jamison Mystery Series so I felt confused at times as several references were made to previous books in the series. Nevertheless, this shouldn’t stop you from enjoying the story as it has a lot to offer and the writer tries to clarify some of this references. One could also say that the mystery was solved too quickly, but one couldn’t expect more in such a small book and, like I said before, this is supposed to be a quick whodunnit.

The characters themselves add a lot to the story because no one would expect to find three senior women with eccentric tastes playing detectives. I believe that these characters alone create all the humor in the book, although the though of a thug with a poodle is also quite funny (you’ll only understand this reference after reading the book).

Filled with unexpected twists, this book will surely entertain you for a few hours and surprise you at the end.
